Jury

Dan Gregory, San Francisco

Daniel P. Gregory is the former Senior Home Editor of Sunset Magazine and has a Ph.D. in Architecture from UC Berkeley. He is the current editor of Houseplans.com. While at Sunset he directed the American Institute of Architects' Sunset Western Home Awards Program, helped found Sunset's Idea House Program and developed the Sunset Breezehouse modern prefab with architect Michelle Kaufmann. Greogry is the author of numerous books and essays including, Cliff May and the Modern Ranch House and The Place Itself: BAR Architects.

Duke Reiter, FAIA, Chicago

Wellington "Duke" Reiter, FAIA is a prominent figure in the architectural academic community. After thirteen years as a member of the faculty at the Department of Architecture at MIT, Reiter became the Dean of the College of Design at Arizona State University. While there he was responsible for the conceptualizing and creating the University's new downtown Phoenix Campus. He has also been a visiting professor at Harvard and the Rhode Island School of Design. He is currently the President of the School of Art Institute of Chicago. Through his professional practice Reiter has received multiple AIA Honor Awards for Urban Design, the Kepes Prize for Interdisciplinary Design from MIT, and four awards from the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture. Reiter's drawings are highly acclaimed and have been published across the US and Europe. His work is displayed in the collections from the Museum of Fine Arts of Boston, San Francisco MoMA, and the Boston Athenaeum. His drawings for speculative urban conditions have been exhibited widely and examples are currently on view at the Venice Biennale for Architecture through the end of 2009.

Anne Schopf, FAIA, Seattle

Anne Schopf, FAIA has worked on a variety of commercial residential projects, but prefers to focus on projects that can add to the community, such as health care facilities and schools. Anne's inventive use of concrete for both structure and finish creates a sustainable building that can stand the test of time. Anne is currently a partner and director of design at Mahlum Architects in Seattle where she aims to create sustainable buildings that have strong ties to their surroundings. Her projects have been honored by the AIA COTE Top Ten Green program, among other national and local honor awards programs. Anne sees sustainable design beyond the numbers. She believes architects should look at the deeper issues when considering a building to ensure that it is not only functional but also durable, versatile, and a beautiful addition to its environment.
