VIMtrek – Virtual Game Changer

11:30am-1:30pm (lunch is provided)

Join AIA East Bay and Ideate, Inc. for lunch on Tuesday, March 20th as we learn about VIMtrek. VIMtrek converts a Revit project into an immersive collaborative 3D environment (a 3D model you can fly through), while retaining the BIM data and the ability to share a free VIMtrek Viewer file on a PC, a MAC or on the web.

The idea came from advanced technologies in the video gaming industry, where hyper-fast rendering algorithms are required to produce the realistic and highly detailed environments. Typical architectural rendering techniques that convert design drafts into photorealistic visuals, typically involve a laborious and time-consuming process and require a high degree of expertise and computing power. The results of these traditional renderings produce visually stunning but static images, allowing no interactive or, more important, collaborative capabilities.

The ability to create controlled collaboration while inviting stakeholders into the design process creates real opportunities for cost savings, and reduces errors in design. VIMtrek allows architects and designers to share portions of projects during the design phase gaining buy-in and increasing speed to build. And by allowing the various non-design stakeholders to make annotations using VIMnotes dramatically improves the decision making process.
