Free Revit Content – Who, What, Where and How Good

Building product manufacturers have discovered Revit! There are over 1000 manufacturers that now provide Revit families for free. Contrary to popular belief, not all of these manufacturers are listed on Autodesk SEEK – there are twenty other firms providing services similar to SEEK. Adding RevitCity and others, it appears there is a supermarket of free content. But, free content is not “free.” Each of us are searching, evaluating, modifying and managing content on our own. We need to band together as an industry to address this issue. This session will propose a new, practical way to address the BIM content problem, leveraging and multiplying current efforts.

About the presenter: Bruce Madsen is the BIM Manager for HOK’s San Francisco office, and the author of HOK’s content development standards. In this role, he has authored the internal “Step-by-Step” guide for “Creating Families,” and trained hundreds of people in the subject. Trained in Industrial Engineering at California Polytechnic University and at Stanford University, Bruce has been focused on industry productivity his whole career. At General Electric he worked in IT and logistics for production of products ranging from light bulbs to locomotives. His current obsession is eliminating waste in BIM.
