Anne Phillips Architects lead a tour of Satellite Central, an occupied rehab of affordable housing.
In early 2010, Satellite Housing engaged APA to improve its original senior housing facilities in Oakland and Berkeley.
Originally constructed in the late 1960s, the four mid-rise and one high-rise buildings are scattered across five sites and encompass 348 units of affordable housing. The scope of work included complete make-overs of the exteriors, renovation and expansion of the interior common spaces, and accessibility and seismic upgrades, all while maintaining full building occupancy.
APA employed a vocabulary of color, aluminum deck sunshades, durable hardwoods, upgraded concrete site work, galvanized steel fencing and entry canopies, and new landscaping at all five sites. This shared language provided a common identity that maximized architectural dividends while reducing design costs.
Architect Anne Phillips, AIA, and project manager Steve Brezovec will lead a tour of Satellite Central, the high-rise & flag-ship building for the project.
