All are welcome, brown bag lunch. Please RSVP for headcount.1.5 CES/HSW LUs
The 2013 CBC states that its provisions apply to the construction, alteration, replacement, repair, and maintenance of every building or structure. It also states that requirements of other codes referenced in the building code “shall be considered part of the requirements of this code”.
This presentation reviews selected “updates” to roof-related requirements in the CBC and other codes referenced in the CBC (e.g., CPC, CEC, and CFC). Discussions will include selected current requirements which are sometimes overlooked (e.g., roof systems need to be UL/FM “tested”, requirements for secondary drainage). Special emphasis will be given roof-related updates to the California Energy Code (e.g., increasing minimum roof reflectance from 0.55 to 0.63).
Learning objective include understanding:
- Requirements and “deemed to comply” options for air barriers.
- Roof mounted solar PV (match fire rating required for roof).
- Roof gardens (6’ “Class A” rated system along edges, skylights, penthouses)
- Wind loads (change from “nominal” to “ultimate” wind speeds).
- Minimum 0.63 roof reflectance, reflectance/insulation trade-offs.
