Gloria Ferrer Tasting Room

October_ArchNews DRAFT pg 1-5_Page_2_Image_0003Valley Architects, LLP, a partnership of William Bylund, AIA and Thomas Faherty, AIA is a 35 year old architectural practice located in the heart of the Napa Valley. Valley Architects has designed several wineries and winery additions and remodels including Domaine Carneros, Nicholson Ranch, Trefethen and Frank Family Winery.   Recently completed after several years of planning and programming is the renovated visitors’ facility at Gloria Ferrer champagne cellars located on Arnold drive in Sonoma. Included in the scope of work was a new and expanded commercial kitchen, updated, expanded with ada accessible restrooms, new tasting room appointments including retail sales cabinets, and a new sleek quartz stone serving counter.  An expanded terrace area was also created. This is the favorite space for visitors and is always full on weekends with folks waiting to sit outside. While maintaining the basic structure and Catalonian feel of the original building, all the improvements have a decidedly upscale and modern touch. New doors and windows bring abundant light into the space. A large window replaces a fireplace inglenook giving visitors an expansive elevated view to the east across the Carneros region of  the Sonoma Valley. Circulation and the visitor experience has been rationalized and made more user friendly from the greeting at the front door to seated tasting on the terrace. A smaller private tasting room and terrace space was created for wine club members. Small bites are available to complement the sparkling wine tasting from the fully equipped commercial kitchen which has over-sized capacity for ice making and glass washing.  Gloria Ferrer is a favorite place for weddings and elopements.  The newly minted visitors’ center provides the perfect back drop for Kodak moments. A big push by the whole construction team resulted in getting the facility ready just in time for a wedding that had been  scheduled a year prior.
