The AIA East bay Design Awards programs were established to recognize exemplary work in the AIA East Bay Chapter Region or by AIA East Bay Chapter Members.

Each year the AIA East Bay alternates between hosting the Exceptional Residential Bay Area Regional Design Awards and the AIA East Bay Design Awards. The AIA East Bay Design Awards is open to all projects built in the AIA East Bay Chapter region or designed by an AIA East Bay Chapter Member, while the Exceptional Residential Bay Area Regional Design Awards focuses on residential projects.

In 2009 the AIA East Bay brought back the Unbuilt Design Awards. This special program celebrates the hard work and creativity of architects, urban planners, design professionals and students. It was established to recognize exemplary projects that are still on the boards, creative conceptual work and innovative representations of projects.
