AIA East Bay's Monthly Programs take place on the evening of the last Wednesday of the month, unless otherwise noted. Not only are these programs informative and interesting, they give you a chance to engage in face-to-face networking. Monthly Programs are the biggest programs of the month and are followed by a wine and cheese reception in the AIA East Bay Chapter Office. Please note some programs may still be in development. January Wednesday 27: Design for Aging at the New AgeSong Facility Learn about the new Assisted Living Facility, AgeSong at Bayside Park in Emeryville. Presented by Kava Massih, AIA of Kava Massih Architects. Hosted by the Regional Northern California Design for Aging Committee. February Wednesday 24: Missing Links - A Town Hall Forum A public forum on the transit links between Oakland & Alameda. Click here to view a summary of the Missing Links Town Hall Forum. March Wednesday 31: Social Media & Web 2.0 for Architects Discover how to use Social Media and Interactive Marketing to build your business and help your career search! Michael Coffey CEO of Sequoia Technology IMS will teach you how to build the right web-based networking foundation and embrace the Web 2.0 world of today. Hosted by the Events Committee. April Wednesday 28: International Business Development What are the practical aspects of getting business and building projects internationally? How do firms break into emerging economies, crossing cultural divides, complex legal issues, and possible language barriers? Wednesday 30: CalGreen - An Overview Steve Winkel, FAIA, architect member and Vice Chair of the California State Building Standard's Commission will give an overview of the new CalGreen Building Standards Code. Hosted by the Events Committee. July Wednesday 28: Vision California - CANCLED due to low registration. Joe DiStefano, principal of Calthorpe Associates will give an overview of the alternative visions for how California can accommodate expected growth. August Wednesday 18: New and Old - Architecture Fusion The quest for sustainability will increasingly concentrate development in cities, generating a greater fusion of old and new styles of architecture, especially as policy incentives are implemented that encourage major additions to existing buildings. This panel will include Charles Bloszies, AIA and be moderated by Tim Culvahouse, FAIA. Click here for more information. September Wednesday 29: Building Under the California Green Building Code Kerwin Lee, AIA of Rolf Jensen & Associates, Inc. will discuss how green design can create challenges for compliance with other portions of the code related to fire and life safety.
