ARE Bootcamp: PD&D 5.0

AIA East Bay’s ARE Bootcamp will provide a structured, rigorous study group for the Project Development & Documentation section of the ARE 5.0, with the goal of every person passing. Bootcamp meets Mondays at AIA East Bay beginning Monday, January 22, 2018 for eight weeks: 1/29, 2/5, 2/12, 2/20(Tuesday), 2/26, 3/5, and 3/12.

This Bootcamp is not a casual program, nor is it lecture format. Participants are required to sign up for the PD&D exam between March 20, 2018 – April 14, 2018.

EP Firm Tour: Lowney Architecture

Emerging Professionals are invited to Lowney Architecture to tour the firm, discuss recent projects and network over light food and beverage.

Lowney Architecture, based in Oakland, CA, was founded by Ken Lowney in 2003 and has quickly grown into one of the area’s leading practices, actively engaged in improving the city through its projects and other civic engagements. AIA East Bay’s ARE Bootcamp will provide a structured, rigorous study group for the Construction Documents & Services section of the ARE 4.0, with the goal of every person passing. Cost includes a set of Construction Documents & Services flashcards and access to study materials and knowledge experts.

Bootcamp meets Mondays at AIA East Bay beginning Monday, October 16 for eight weeks: 10/16, 10/23, 10/30, 11/6, 11/13, 11/20, 11/27, 12/4.

Participants must schedule to take the CDS section of the ARE between Tuesday, December 19, 2017 and Tuesday, January 9, 2018. Participants must provide proof of test registration to AIA East Bay by the third session of the Bootcamp (10/30). Please do not register if you cannot attend at least seven of the eight meetings.

The AIA East Bay Emerging Professionals are pleased to announce a Firm Tour of Pyatok. There will be a brief presentation by Pyatok staff, a tour of their office space and then ample time for networking. Light refreshments will be provided.

Pyatok’s mission reveals the originating purpose of our work: to provide the highest quality design and technical assistance in a world of shrinking resources to people across a wide spectrum of incomes, socio-cultural backgrounds, and ages. Originally focused solely on helping lower income communities determine their own sustainable housing solutions unique to their cultural and social origins, PYATOK’s commitment has now also extended to people who have the financial ability to comfortably obtain their own housing on the open market, and to students in higher education who need decent and affordable housing.

From July 31 to September 18, 2017, AIA East Bay will hold a weekly ARE Bootcamp, providing a structured, rigorous study group for the Site Planning & Design section of the ARE, with the goal of every person passing.

Participants must schedule to take the SPD section of the ARE between Tuesday, September 19, 2017 and Tuesday, October 10, 2017. Participants must provide proof of test registration to AIA East Bay by the third session of the Bootcamp (8/15). Please do not register if you cannot attend at least seven of the eight meetings.

The AIA East Bay Emerging Professionals are pleased to announce a Firm Tour of Gensler Oakland led by Anna Han, AIA. Ms. Han will be joined by her colleagues Amy Wynott, Emilio Todescato, Fabiola Catalan and Dayton Mac, AIA.

Gensler’s award-winning Oakland office is characterized by function and flexibility. Perched on the top floor of a Class A office tower, the space provides a captivating 360-degree panoramic view of the East Bay hills, Downtown Oakland, the Bay Bridge, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the San Francisco skyline.  Organized into multiple components that support a multidisciplinary practice, the core-centric space has sit-stand desks, benching tables and drop-in stations around the perimeter, with conference and small meeting rooms around the core and a large flexible project area on the south end of the floor. Each area of the office is distinguished by its deliberate form and honest expression of materials.We are pleased to invite members of BAYA, the Bay Area Young Architects, to join us on this tour!

Emerging Professionals Firm Tour: Shah Kawasaki Architects

Come join the AIA East Bay Emerging Professionals Committee for our first Firm Tour of the year at Shah Kawasaki Architects.
