Leap Arts in Education is seeking energetic and talented architects to work within our Artists in the Schools Residency Program in San Francisco, Alameda, and San Mateo Counties.
Leap's mission is to provide top quality arts education programs that help students build skills to achieve their fullest potential. Leap seeks an individual with an architecture background who is dedicated to teaching Architecture/Design principles to youth as part of their professional or personal interests. Working in collaboration with classroom teachers, artists/architects create and deliver authentic arts programming that enhance the classroom's existing classroom curriculum. Additionally, Leap teaching artists/architects come together as a learning community throughout the year for ongoing professional development to help cultivate and nurture best practices.
Desired qualifications include:
*Enthusiasm and experience working with youth ages 5-11
*Ability to convey design elements and fundamentals to young students
*Creative approach to teaching principles of architecture
*Collaborative working style
*Interest in development/growth as an educator with openness to feedback and willingness to experiment with various teaching approaches.
An average residency is 8-12 weeks long and can span from one to eight hours a week or more, depending on the needs of the school. A materials budget is provided for all projects. No California teacher certification is required. Architects will be interviewed and auditioned, and if hired, will be trained in Leap's model for curriculum integration and in-school partnership with classroom teachers.
