About Tyler Kobick:
Tyler Kobick, Principal and Founder of Design Draw Build, is a licensed architect and contractor who works in the intersection of architecture and public-interest design, custom fabrication and building methodologies, and ecological design. The process at DDB is rooted in the practicalities of construction, and has grown into a practice that emphasizes thoughtful economy, creativity and excellence in design, and how it translates into construction. Collaboration between the architects, makers, and builders throughout the process creates ‘craft moments’ that inform the work in real time and ensure the contextual sustainability of projects. The firm works across a broad range of housing typologies including ADUs, custom renovations, multifamily residential, co-housing and adaptive reuse live/work. DDB also develops commercial offices, education spaces, religious buildings, mixed-use projects, and event/music venues.
Tyler was born in Northeast Ohio, holds a BArch from University of Cincinnati and a Masters in Architecture focusing on Design Build Practice from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada. Prior to settling in Oakland six years ago, Tyler’s career includes a 10-year residency in Vermont, during which he traveled and built extensively throughout the United States, Canada and in California with his business partner from DDB. Tyler personally enjoys cooking, climbing, dog walks, and playing a few string instruments.
