ABOUT BRIAN JOHNSEN + SEBASTIAN SCHMALING
Brian Johnsen, AIA, and Sebastian Schmaling, AIA, LEED AP, are the Fitzhugh Scott Distinguished Professors in Practice at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and founding partners of Johnsen Schmaling Architects, an eight-person design and research studio dedicated to architectural innovations and environmental sustainability. Johnsen Schmaling received the Emerging Voices award from the Architectural League of New York and was featured in Architectural Record’s Vanguard issue as one of ten “exceptional global architecture firms to watch.” The work of Johnsen Schmaling has garnered over 100 professional design awards and has been featured in countless books and design publications around the globe.
Johnsen grew up in Chicago and received his Bachelor in Architectural Studies and a Master of Architecture from the University of University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Schmaling grew up in Berlin, Germany and received an Architecture Diploma from the Technical University Berlin, a Master of Architecture from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and a Master of Architecture in Urban Design from Harvard, where he graduated with distinction.
