The Impacts Of Flooding & Building a Resilient Model For Tomorrow (1 LU)

You’re invited to join CSI East Bay-Oakland for a virtual event on Tuesday, May 18th, 2021. The event will feature a presentation by Clay Goodrich: “The Impacts of Flooding & Building a Resilient Model For Tomorrow”.

This one-hour Zoom program is worth 1 LU.

Summary: This course provides insight into the importance of proper foundation flood vents and dry floodproofing techniques for buildings located in a flood zone. It will identify FEMA, NFIP,ASCE, ICC, and Building Code regulations, codes, and standards as they relate to sustaining foundations and overall business continuity in flood hazard areas and analyze the role of building compliance in securing lowering flood insurance rates and what mitigation solutions are available. After the course, participants will have a thorough understanding of floodproofing options and the important role they play in designing a sustainable structure.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe floods and the potential hazards to buildings.
  • Explain the differences between wet and dry floodproofing techniques.
  • Define the differences in engineered and nonengineered flood openings and their ability to ensure resilient structures.
  • Active vs. passive floodproofing

From Mr. Goodrich’s LinkedIn page: “As a Flood Mitigation Specialist, I provide expertise and product solutions for hazard mitigation, disaster preparedness and floodplain construction design, as well as the impact these solutions have on flood insurance premiums.

As an AIA/ICC Preferred Education Provider I present continuing education programs for CEU/PDH credit for all parties involved in floodplain design, build, and habitation. I consult with a wide variety of professionals, including Architects, Engineers and Code Officials, on how to analyze the role of FEMA and NFIP regulations found in existing IRC/IBC codes. Shedding more light on floodplain design and construction regulations helps developers, communities and property owners mitigate flood risk, lower flood insurance cost and alleviate long term economic loss.”
