Film Screening: The Story of Plastic (animated short)
In honor of Earth Day, the COTE will begin their monthly meeting by watching the animated short The Story of Plastic.
The Story of Plastic (animated short) is a companion piece to our feature-length documentary of the same name, which celebrated its global television premiere on Earth Day of 2020.
From the deepest ocean trenches to the arctic ice sheets, plastic pollution everywhere. There’s a lie at the heart of this problem — that litterbugs are to blame. It’s time to change the narrative about who’s really responsible for plastic pollution.
The world is drowning in plastics that pollute at every stage of their lifecycle. Starting with the health of communities near extraction and refinery sites, polluting frontline communities in Global South through to the 8 million tons ending up in our ocean each year. In the face of this crisis, industry plans to ramp up plastic production by 40% over the next decade.
When future generations look upon the plastic polluting our ecosystems they won’t ask why we didn’t recycle more, they will ask why products taking minutes to consume were produced in packaging that lasts for centuries.
