A new generation of HKIT leadership seeks a hands-on Controller with strong industry experience to manage its financial and accounting functions, and to also support other business management requirements. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proven ability to actively contribute to the Company’s business planning and serve as an internal consultant to Principals and Project Managers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Summary: The Controller reports directly to the Managing Partners and is responsible for managing and the administration of the Company’s finance and accounting functions, in support of the Company’s planned, profitable growth, and sound operating controls.
A. Assists management in establishing goals for profitability, cost control and productivity. Assist in steering the company towards short and long-term profitability.
B. Responsible for management, organization, staffing, and supervision of accounting staff and systems to maintain responsive organization and fulfill business requirements.
C. Maintain General Ledger.
D. Prepares accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements of accrual based financial performance, balance sheet and cash flows. Develop written summary of major variances from plan.
E. Regularly provide financial statements and other reports including weekly revenue and chargeability reports, projections, backlog, and project reports to Managing Principals on weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual or other periodic basis as appropriate.
F. With goals established by Managing Principals and other designated participants, assist with development of business plans and monitoring of success.
G. Under the direction of Managing Principals, prepare overhead, operating and capital budgets – Monitor the firm’s expenditures on a monthly and quarterly basis and report steps taken to maintain them at a level required for effective operations.
H. Interface with the Company’s CPA providing information as requested for tax and other financial planning and reporting. Interface with other Company advisors as requested by Managing Principals.
I. Interface with Company banker. Negotiate credit arrangements to support Company business requirements.
J. Maintain favorable relationships and communications with firm’s clients and vendors.
K. Provide regular input to Managing Principals concerning processes and systems and firm performance. Work with management in a proactive and collaborative manner. Work within a team process to reach consensus.
L. Oversee invoicing, internal controls and professional insurance.
M. Coordinate with Human Resources Manager. Supervise payroll administration.
A. Bachelors in Accounting/Business Administration Required. CPA/MBA a definite plus.
B. Minimum of 15 years in business finance and accounting.
C. Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Controller or Accounting Manager or equivalent managing Finance/Accounting with staff under direct supervision with an established Architectural/Engineering firm of a similar size.
D. Strong understanding of contract terms and conditions and commercial framework for schools and housing markets.
E. Strong knowledge of, and ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles and practices, and project accounting required.
F. Experience with financial management systems required. Proficiency with A/E project accounting software, Deltek Vision preferred.
G. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and advanced Excel.
H. Must demonstrate exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and have experience working collaborative with Principals and Project Managers as well as other managers and staff.
I. Should be self-motivated and well organized
