The 2021 AIA East Bay Home Tours| Shelter 

Welcome!

We are delighted to welcome you to submit your residential project that responsibly addresses the issue of shelter.

The AIA East Bay Chapter aims to promote the design excellence of living environments by showcasing innovative thinking and design solutions, around the following general topics:

Design:  Creative housing solutions to address lack of affordable housing, community-inclusive approach to problem-solving

Technology: Off-grid and self-sufficient buildings, next-generation sustainable materials, low-impact building processes

Impacts:  Sacred reciprocity between the built and the natural environments, multi-generational living, aging in place, community spaces

Projects must have been built after January 2015.

The following housing type categories are eligible for submission:

  • Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU)
  • Affordable Housing
  • Co-Living Spaces – NEW
  • Houses for the Unsheltered
  • Intentional Communities
  • Live-Work Spaces
  • Multi-Family Buildings
  • Single-Family Homes
  • Tiny Homes
  • & Other

You are required to submit a 300-word maximum narrative about your project that highlights certain innovation aspects: 

Example list of project considerations could include:

1. Programming (includes flexible housing solutions)

2. Design process (examples public engagement, integrated process)

3. Environmental / Sustainable / Resilient Design (can be a broad range from biophilia, to building siting, to material selection)

4. Innovation, Affordability Solutions
