AIA CA Year End Meeting Updates

New Governance Model Approved!

On November 8th, the AIA California Board met for our year end meeting. Here are some highlights from the meeting, as reported by our AIAEB Board Representative, Winston Win.

Highlights:

  • MDC (Monterey Design Conference), held every other year, was successful, 900+ in person, 200+ virtually, some firms used it as their company retreat. MDC Daily Dose was a new publication launched
  • Snapshots provide a quick visual summary with links to learn more about the latest on the key programs at AIA California and our sister organization, the California Architectural Foundation:
  • 2024 Budget Review:
    • 95% of revenue as of 9/30. Tracking in line with budget net.
    • 59% of expense as of 9/30. No concerns at the moment.
    • Positive non-dues income variance will offset negative variance in dues income.
  • Board voted to approve 2025 Operating Budget, which included no increase in dues. Expenditures include continued Investment in CAF and increased personnel costs.
  • We held an election for 2025 Officers– Here are the election results: 2025 AIA California Board Election Results – AIA California
  • Governance Model Vote: Model 2A was approved on a 22 to 17 vote
    • Model 2A has a Board w/ Strategic Advisory Council. President Elect presides over strategic council (see images below).
  • Committee Appointments – call for volunteers : 2025 Volunteer Form – AIA California
  • Meeting adjourned and a separate event was held for the installation of the 2025 President, Carina Mills. Carina had been serving as First VP/President-Elect under the 2024 President, Winston Thorne, who was elected to move onto the National Strategic Council.
