AIA East Bay is partnering with local schools to introduce high school students to careers in architecture and construction. We have two simple, high-impact ways for members to get involved this spring via our partnership with CTWI. (Construction Trades Workforce Initiative)
Guest speaking in East Bay high schools
We are looking for volunteers to spend one class period speaking with students about what you do.
Details:
- One hour classroom visit
- 10 to 30 students per class
- Short presentation on your career path, how students can apply, how to prepare, and examples of your work
- Optional hands-on activity if you would like to include one
You can book directly with these schools via the links below:
Host a student job site tour
We are also organizing at least one site visit for 11th and 12th-grade students.
What we need:
- A project in Oakland or San Leandro
- Any building type or construction phase
- Group size of 15 to 30 students plus instructors
- Dates between late March and early May, excluding the first two weeks of April
Having architects and construction managers on site for these tours is especially valuable for students.
Submit your tour proposals below!
If you are able to participate in either opportunity or would like more information, please reach out to us. Even a single hour can help students better understand the profession and imagine a future in the built environment.
