New World Architects' Camp - AIA - East Bay Chapter

New World Architects’ Camp

Now in its 10th year, the New World Architect’s Camp is a summer youth camp founded by Jeremiah Tolbert, AIA (CED B.A. Arch. 2004) and Cameron Toler (CED B.A. Arch. 2009) in partnership with the American Institute of Architects East Bay and the Fam1st Family Foundation. This program has been breaking down barriers and providing access to resources for middle school students from underrepresented communities, empowering them to explore the world of architecture and design.

Operated out of UC Berkeley’s College of Environmental Design, the New World Architect’s Camp is staffed by volunteer instructors who are architects, educators, and designers. These experienced professionals lend their expertise and provide hands-on instruction in project ideation, sketching, drafting, designing, and 3D modeling, giving students real-world experience and insight into the profession.

Through mentorship, hands-on learning, and exposure to professionals in the field, the New World Architect’s Camp has impacted hundreds of students, igniting their passion for design and equipping them with valuable skills. Your support can help us continue to shape the next generation of architects and designers from underrepresented communities. Join us in making a meaningful impact – volunteer today and support the future of environmental design.

New World Architects provide a safe and inclusive environment where all students feel valued, respected, and supported. We believe that everyone has the potential to succeed and thrive, and we are dedicated to helping students reach their full potential. As architects and designers, we know that design-thinking is a key which:

    1. Empowers our youth to become problem solvers
    2. Help them develop empathy and cultural awareness
    3. Build creative confidence
    4. Foster collaboration and teamwork
    5. Provide practical skills for future success

Thank you for your consideration of the New World Architects’ Camp. As the program has been rigorously fine tuned for a decade using volunteer efforts, it is now at an inflection point. Today, the program’s goal is to increase the number of Black and Brown students entering environmental design education. With additional funding for instructional resources and administrative support, we can provide our students with the best possible instruction and inspiration to help them succeed in their design education goals.

We are excited to continue inspiring and empowering the next generation of stewards of the built environment. With your support, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of students from underrepresented communities, opening doors to opportunities in architecture and design. Join us in our mission and be a part of shaping a brighter future. Donate today and help us make a lasting impact in young lives and the profession!
