
California Building Codes Update 2022 (2 LU | HSW)
Steve Winkel, FAIA, PE, CASp, of the Preview Group, a building code and accessibility consulting firm in Berkeley, will present the most significant non-structural changes to the 2022 California Building Code that will take effect on Jan 1, 2023. Topics will include new provisions for non-structural requirements for fire separations, means of egress, life safety, and more.

About Your Speaker
Steven Winkel, FAIA, PE, CASp manages the San Francisco Bay Area office of The Preview Group, Inc., an architectural consulting firm that specializes in building code and accessibility consulting and regulatory issues affecting designers. Mr. Winkel focuses on consulting services, including code analyses, accessibility assessments, quality assurance peer reviews of construction documents and code education seminars for design professionals.
Mr. Winkel is a licensed architect, civil engineer, landscape architect and certified access specialist with over 50 years of experience. He is the author, along with noted illustrator Frank Ching, of the well-received book Building Codes Illustrated, now in its sixth edition. Steve is finishing up his fifth 4-year term as the Architect member and Vice-chair of the California Building Standards Commission. He and his firm have represented the AIA at the International Code Council’s (ICC) code development process for almost twenty years. Steve is an Honorary Member of the ICC which grants him voting privileges on ICC code change proposals for the ICC model codes.

- Identify significant changes made in the basic 2021 IBC and IRC that are included in the 2022 CBC and CRC.
- Identify California-specific changes to the 2021 IBC and IRC in the 2022 CBC and CRC.
- Identify the changes made to the 2019 codes by interim changes that will be carried forward in the 2022 CBC and CRC.
- Learn to recognize the impact of the noted changes on practice.
